New Zealand's work-based training system is being reformed, and Competenz is moving to a new structure. Here's what that means for you and your apprentice.
Competenz is transitioning to operate as a private training enterprise (PTE). An interim board is overseeing the move. The structure behind the scenes is changing — the training, the people, and the relationships you rely on are not.
No. Your apprentice's training carries on exactly as it is — same qualification, same training plan, same progress. Nothing they've already completed is at risk, and nothing they're working towards changes.
Nothing. You don't need to re-enrol, re-sign, or change how you work with us. If anything ever does need an action from you, your training advisor will tell you directly and walk you through it.
Your relationship with your training advisor stays the same. They remain your point of contact, your visits continue, and the support around your apprentice — assessments, block courses, pastoral care — carries on unchanged.
It's part of a nationwide reform of how work-based training is delivered in New Zealand, aimed at a more stable, industry-led system. We'll keep this page updated as things progress, and we'll always give you the straight version.
Got a question this doesn't answer? Your training advisor would rather you asked than wondered — reach out any time.
